CHENNAI: A college student from Thiruvottiyur, Chennai, killed his mother and younger brother due to constant scolding over his poor academic performance. Nithesh (20), a third-year BSc student, killed his mother, Padma (45) and his brother, Sanjay (15), a class 10 student, while they were sleeping at night. The bodies were found wrapped in plastic two days after the incident.

Nithesh confessed to the police that he had a grudge against his mother but decided to kill both of them because he was worried his brother would be isolated after their mother's death. The father, Murugan, is currently abroad.

The crime was committed on Thursday and Nithesh left home immediately. The next day, he sent a message to a relative, Mahalakshmi, informing her of the crime and instructing her to check the house, mentioning that the key was placed beside it. Mahalakshmi saw the message a day later. When she went to the house on Saturday, she found the bodies emitting a foul smell and immediately informed the police.

Upon arrival, the police found the knife used for the crime near the bodies with blood stains all over the room. The post-mortem was completed at Stanley Government Hospital. During the investigation, Nithesh was located and arrested. The deceased Padma ran an acupuncture therapy center.
