Take strict action against police misconduct: Kerala HC

KOCHI: The High Court has directed the state police chief to ensure strong action against the misconduct of police officials. DGP Sheikh Darvesh Sahib, who appeared online in the court, was told by Justice Devan Ramachandran that colonial style cannot be allowed and the supreme values ​​of the Constitution must be protected. The court pointed out this while considering the contempt of court petitions related to SI's misbehaviour towards a lawyer who came to the station in Alathur.

"The reputation of the police force is being lost because of isolated incidents. There is no point in issuing circulars alone. Strict action is required. The accused police officials said that it was a sudden provocation. They should model soldiers and learn restraint," the court observed.

The matter will be considered again after three weeks.

Strict action: DGP

The DGP informed that the complaints against the police officers are being investigated and strict disciplinary action is being taken.

"There were measures including dismissal. Explanation has been sought from the transferred SI Reneesh in the Alathur incident," he said.

The Bar Association argued that no serious action was taken against Reneesh. A point was made in court that there are two other complaints against him for misconduct. The single bench directed to provide this information in writing. The court said there will be supervision from them in this regard and that there will be constant communication with the superiors to increase the excellence and efficiency of the police.
