ISRO to launch 'Chandrayaan 4' in two phases, assembling parts in space for the first time

NEW DELHI: ISRO Chairman R Somnath stated that the launch of 'Chandrayaan 4' mission will be done in two phases. The parts of 'Chandrayaan 4' will be launched to space in two stages and then assembled there and continue its journey to the moon.

R Somnath said that the weight of 'Chandrayaan 4' is more than what ISRO's most powerful rocket can carry. This is why the launch is being done in two stages. He revealed these things in his speech in Delhi.

Although several spacecraft have been connected in the past, this is the first time that parts of a spacecraft being assembled in space. Docking technology is being developed to assemble spacecraft parts in space. The mission, named SPADEX, will be completed by the end of this year. Somnath said that the report on the cost of Chandrayaan 4 will be forwarded to the government soon.

He said that a proposal containing detailed information to be given to the government regarding the launch of space launching station is being prepared.
