More people involved in Kala murder case? accused sent to custody for six days

ALAPPUZHA: The accused in the Mannar Kala murder case has been sent to police custody for six days. The police stated in their custody application that they needed to investigate whether more people were involved in the case and locate the car in which Kala was killed.

Kala was murdered on the Perumpuzha bridge in 2009. Following this, Kala's husband Anil and his relatives hid her body near the house. The police also said that the accused destroyed the evidence after the murder. The custody application further stated that it is suspected that Kala was killed using a weapon. Apart from murder, the accused have also been charged with tampering with evidence.

The accused in custody are Anil's brother-in-law Somarajan, and relatives Jinu Gopi, Pramod, Santhosh and Sureshkumar. It is concluded that Anil's suspicion led to the murder.

Kala, the daughter of Chennithala native Chellappan and Chandrika, went missing 15 years ago. Her child was just one year old then. Her husband Anil had lodged a missing complaint with the police soon after she went missing. He wandered around at many places in the name of finding her. He told everyone that she eloped with someone. Anil later got married to another woman. Kala's son lives with them now.
