Hemant Soren takes oath as Jharkhand Chief Minister

RANCHI: JMM leader Hemant Soren on Thursday took oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand. Governor CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath in a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan. Leaders of the INDIA alliance were present on the occasion. This is the third time Soren has become the Chief Minister of Jharkhand.

Hemant Soren, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in January on charges related to an alleged land scam and money laundering, was released from the Birsa Munda Jail on June 28 after nearly five months following bail from Jharkhand High Court. Before his arrest, Soren had resigned as the Chief Minister.

A meeting of the INDIA alliance held the other day decided to make Hemant Soren the Chief Minister again. Following this, Champai Soren resigned as the CM. Later, Hemant Soren gave a letter to the Governor staking a claim to form the government. The move comes just months before the Jharkhand assembly elections.
