Elderly woman dumped on road after robbing chain in Kozhikode, police intensify search for auto driver

KOZHIKODE: A complaint has been lodged against an auto driver for robbing the chain of an elderly woman, who boarded his vehicle. She who boarded the auto from the railway station area was attacked and stole her gold chain of two and a half sovereigns. Josephine (68), a native of Wayanad Pulpally, was brutally attacked by an unknown auto driver. Seriously injured Josephine underwent surgery at a private hospital in Omassery.

Josephine was attacked last Wednesday at around 5 am. She was attacked when she came in Malabar Express after visiting her son in Kayamkulam. She got down at Kozhikode railway station in the morning. She walked out of the railway station to go to the KSRTC stand. Meanwhile, an auto driver came near her and asked her where she wants to go and then told her to get into his auto.


However, in the statement to the police, Josephine said that he did not take her to the bus stand and instead took her to other routes and when she questioned this, he turned back and broke her chain. He later pushed her down. In the impact of the fall, she fractured her jaw and broke some of her teeth.

She sustained injuries on her face and hands. Josephine said that after pushing her down, he stopped the auto, came near and looked at her and then fled from the spot. She said that she sought help from many passersby but nobody came forward. She somehow got up, reached the bus stand and went to her relatives in house at Koodaranji in Kozhikode.


They took her to the hospital and got her hospitalized. She was subjected to a surgery after fracturing her jaws. She is under observation in the ICU. The Kozhikode Twon Police have started an investigation after registering the case.
