Heavy rain alert in state; Yellow alert declared in five districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rain will continue in the state in coming days. Yellow alert has been declared in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. A chance of isolated heavy rain is forecast.

Yellow alert has been announced in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow and on Monday and Tuesday in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.

The National Center for Oceanographic Studies (INCOIS) has informed that there is a possibility of rough sea phenomenon and high waves along Kerala coast and Tamil Nadu coast till 11.30 pm tomorrow. Fishermen and coastal residents in these areas should exercise special caution.

As the rough seas are likely to intensify, stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities. Keep fishing vessels safely moored in the harbor. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the possibility of collision. Safety of fishing equipment should be ensured. Avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea.

The Central Meteorological Department has informed that one should not go fishing in the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts. Strong winds and bad weather conditions are likely over northern parts of Karnataka coast, Kerala coast and Lakshadweep coast till tomorrow with a speed of 35 to 45 kmph and at some occasions up to 55 kmph.
