E-Challan messages you receive may be scam; MVD shares guidelines in Facebook post

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: MVD warns that the number of fraudsters trying to extort money by sending fake messages in the name of e-Challan is increasing. Fraudsters are tricking people by sending fake messages using the official logo of e-Challan. In view of the complaints that many people have lost their money in this way, the Motor Vehicles Department has issued guidelines. MVD shared the guidelines in a Facebook post.

Watch out for fake SMS messages and WhatsApp messages in the name of e-challan prepared by AI camera, speed camera or direct vehicle inspection related to violations of moto vehicle rules.............

It has been noticed that the number of fraudsters trying to steal money by sending fake messages in the name of e-Challan is increasing. Fraudsters are tricking people by sending fake messages using the official logo and language of e-Challan. In the event of several people reporting their money being taken, please note the following:

  • Clicking on the application file (.apk link) sent by someone on WhatsApp will lead you to the apps and you getting trapped.
  • Take information from e-Challan official website only. If you receive any message in the name of e-Challan, make sure it is from the official website. Or else, directly contact the customer service department of e-Challan.
  • Never give your personal information in response to a fake message. If a message appears in the name of e-Challan asking you to provide your account details, password and credit card information, it is a scam. This information will never be requested in official messages of e-Challan.
  • Do not click on suspicious links. Clicking on links from e-mail messages may install malware on your device. Avoid clicking on these links.
  • Report fraud to e-Challan's customer service department. Reporting this scam to e-Challan's customer service department will help protect other people from this scam.
