Heavy rains likely in state; three districts on alert

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely to lash the state today. Yellow alert has been issued in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasargod. A chance of isolated heavy rain has been predicted.


The Indian Meteorological Department has informed that there is a possibility of moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod in the next three hours with gusty winds of up to 40 kmph.


Heavy rain will continue in the coming days. Orange alert has been issued in Kozhikode tomorrow. A chance of isolated heavy rain is forecast. Yellow alert has also been announced in Thrissur, Malappuram, Kannur and Kasaragod.


Orange alert has been sounded in Kannur and yellow alert in Kozhikode and Kasaragod on Sunday. Kasaragod is on orange alert on Monday. A yellow alert has also been decleared in Kannur.


The National Center for Oceanographic Studies (INCOIS) said that there is a possibility of high waves and rough seas along the coast of Kerala and Tamil Nadu till 11.30 tonight. Fishermen and coastal residents in these areas should exercise special caution.


As the rough seas are likely to intensify, stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities. Keep fishing vessels safely moored in the harbor. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the possibility of collision. Safety of fishing equipment should be ensured. Avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea.
