THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is bracing for heavy rains on Saturday after IMD warned about downpours intensifying in the southern state. Heavy rains are predicted in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. The yellow alert is on in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Wayanad districts. Heavy rains in Kerala are due to the presence of a low-pressure trough from the north Kerala coast to the south Kerala coast.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has warned about the possibility of high waves and sea storms on the Kerala and Tamil Nadu coast till 11:30 pm on Sunday. It would be ideal to keep fishing vessels safely moored in the harbour. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the possibility of collision. The safety of fishing equipment should be ensured. IMD warned people to not engage in leisure or sports activities near beach areas.

With high chances of waterlogging in the city premises, expect traffic snarls in the coming days. It would be better if authorities find a way to eke out such a tiring crisis.
