Heavy rain expected in next three hours; special warning to three districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rain has been pouring incessantly since Saturday morning in Kerala. Taking not of the intensifying monsoon, IMD has issued an orange alert in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.

Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Wayanad districts are on yellow alert today.

According to IMD, in the next three hours, moderate rains with thunder and lightning are likely in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts.

The low-pressure belt extends from the north Kerala coast to the Maharashtra coast. Meanwhile a whirlwind formation has been located over the central western Bay of Bengal near the coast of Andhra Pradesh. As a result, moderate rain with widespread thunder/lightning is likely over Kerala for the next five days.

  • Yellow alert: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Wayanad.

Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts are on orange alert on Tuesday. A yellow alert has also been declared in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Wayanad districts.
