NEW DELHI: Delhi Police's Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operation (IFSO) cell has registered a case over the obscene remarks made at Smriti Singh, wife of martyred Captain Anshuman Singh.

Since the remarks came through social media platform X, the officials reached out to X to provide details of the user who targeted the widow of a martyr. The National Commission for Women had voluntarily registered a case in the incident on Monday.

Captain Anshuman Singh died in 2023 while trying to save people after a fire broke out in Siachen. He was recently honoured with Kirti Chakra posthumously. Captain Anshuman Singh’s mother and widow Smriti received the honour from President Droupadi Murmu on July 5th.

The video of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh having a tough time, controlling his emotions while the nation-honoured captain Anshuman went viral across social media. A touching video of Smriti talking about her late husband also won hearts on the internet.

In the meantime, the family of Captain Anshuman came with accusations against Smriti for taking away the gallantry medal and her husband’s belongings to her hometown of Gurdaspur in Punjab. After this fallout in the family, a doctor on X hurled obscenities at Smriti drawing flak from users. Noticing this, the National Commission for Women intervened in the matter and directed the police to take action.

The parents also demanded a change in the Indian Army's (NOK) norms for providing financial assistance to family members in case of martyrdom. Anshuman's mother Manju Singh said, "Government NOK should also review the rules so that other parents don't face any hardship."
