Railways to blame for everything, they didn't allow cleaning of Amayizhanjan Canal: Sivankutty

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Nine hours have passed since the cleaning worker went missing while clean the Amayizhanjan Canal. Joy, a native of Marayamuttam, went missing after entering the canal. Now Minister V Shivankutty has come forward blaming the railways in this incident. The minister criticized the Railways as the reason for the accumulation of garbage in Amayizhanjan Canal.

The Minister said that it is railway's property and the Corporation was not allowed to carry out the cleaning work. Sivankutty added that Indian Railways have not done anything significant here and this is the main problem. Meanwhile, the search for Joy, a native of Marayamuttam, Thiruvananthapuram, is in progress. The flooded tunnel-like area is littered with garbage and lack of light and air is making rescue operations difficult.

Amayizhanjan Canal is 12 km long. This canal passes across the station on the way past the railway line. The section that goes under the track across the station is not wide. This place is like a tunnel. This also poses a challenge to rescue operations. The scuba team has called off the search. A robot has been brought from a company called Gen Robotics in Technopark has been brought in for inspection after removing the garbage from a manhole.
