Mamta Mohandas made a great comeback in the Tamil Industry with 'Maharaja', with Vijay Sethupathi playing the lead role. A considerable time focusing on health had distanced Mamta from the movie world for quite some time. While attending a promotion work on her latest Tamil movie, Mamta opened up about how unfair the movie industry can be at times.

Mamta Mohandas:

“Two years back, I got a call from a good production team in Tamil. I came a long way to attend the meeting and thought it would be my reentry to Tamil after a long time. Six months after the meeting, the same production man called me for another movie. He also enquired about my autoimmune condition, which he read in a newspaper.

I then asked him about the old meeting and asked about the film. He then placidly told me that the movie was filmed using another actress. I have lived in the US for about nine years. In that country, a 'NO' is a 'NO'. People could express their opinion straight to our face and nobody cares how we take it. The film industry should imbibe such a culture.

In another case, some four days before the shooting, I was removed from a Telugu film. They wanted a heroine who could expose her body without inhibition. I have already informed them about my distress about exposing too much. See, I have fought more challenges in life so this seemed petulant and knew that I could easily overcome it.
