MALAPPURAM: 1,90,413 students are yet to receive the LSS and USS scholarships in the state. The scholarship amount is due from 2019 onwards. There is an outstanding amount of Rs.37 crore for 1,30,400 students with LSS scholarships and 60,013 students with USS scholarships. The government has promised to clear the arrears of 30 crores this financial year.

Students who pass the LSS exam for Class IV will get a scholarship of Rs.1,000 each for three years and Class VII students will get Rs.1,500 for three years. Students are frustrated with the scholarship amount being delayed. Many USS-qualified pupils are now higher secondary students.

Error in data collection

The Education Department has started collecting information on a separate portal for the distribution of scholarships. Headteachers must enter the bank account details in the portal to credit the amount to the student's accounts. Even though the information of 80 percent of students has been collected, it has been found that there are errors in it. Data collection started at the end of May.

Schools have been instructed to submit the information correctly by 17. Earlier, the amount given to the Headteacher's account was received directly by the students.
