Argentina designates Hamas a terrorist group

Argentina designated Hamas as a terrorist organization, thereby openly flaunting the South American country’s unwavering support to both the US and Israel. After ascending the throne of power, President Javier Milei is on a mission to radically transform the country; aligning it more with the right-leaning governments of the world. After a disaster run, the economy is now fledgling in Argentina under the watchful eyes of President Milei.

The president and his government despised the attack carried out by Hamas on October 7 that killed more than 1200 people. Argentina also blamed Hamas’ close ties with Iran, a reason for the South American country's diplomatic u-turn. The government will also freeze financial deals with the Palestinian state.

The decision from President Milei coincided with the 30th anniversary of the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community centre in Buenos Aires. The former left governments in Argentina had held Israel close but had also nurtured a good relationship with Palestinians. Miliei is set for an overhaul of the country's diplomatic relations as he lucidly termed Hamas as a “terrorist organization”. He also beseeched Argentinians inculcate westernized concepts, for the country’s betterment.
