Man attempts to kill wife and family members by setting house on fire

PALAKKAD: In a shocking incident, a man attempted to kill his wife and family members by setting the house on fire. It was Palakkad native Farooq who attempted to kill his wife Noorjahan, son Salman Faris and mother Mariya by setting the house ablaze. Farooq, who slit his veins following the incident, has been admitted to the hospital.

The incident took place at around 4.30 am on Monday. Farooq set the house on fire after pouring diesel around it. Although Faris tried to get out of the house, the door was locked from outside. Following this, he came out by breaking the roof of the house. By that time, the front door and clothes were on fire. More than half a can of diesel was found in front of the house. Soon, locals rushed to the area and informed the police. During the subsequent inspection conducted by the police, Farooq was found in the bathroom with a severed vein. Farooq, who was lying unconscious, was admitted to the district hospital.

Farooq and Noorjahan have been living separately for the last two years. In the meantime, Farooq had demanded that the property in the name of Mariya should be transferred to Noorjahan and him. According to the police, Farooq set the house on fire as Mariya did not agree to this.
