Amidst the excitement, the trailer launch of MT Vasudevan Nair’s anthology ‘Manorathangal’ witnessed a distasteful incident. Veteran musician Ramesh Narayan denied an award from actor Asif Ali, making the situation awkward for the actor, who expressed no resentment but handled the situation with his relaxed demeanour.

Ramesh Narayan even failed to make eye contact with Asif and waited for director Jayaraj to hand over the award to him. Sensing the bitter turn of events, the applause from the crowd also died down. Actor Indrajith, seated next to the musician had to witness the whole incident.

Social media erupted in protest over the disrespect hurled at Asif Ali by the musician. Many empathized the way Asif walked back after getting admonished by Ramesh Narayan. Some also praised the actor for not throwing a fit despite facing an insult in all public glare.

And now Ramesh Narayan has come up with an explanation for the incident

“The anchor addressed me incorrectly as Santhosh Narayanan and Asif immediately approached me and handed over the award. Before I could correct the anchor, Asif handed over the award and left without greeting me. Indeed, I didn’t make eye contact with Asif because I was caught in the total gaffe. It was then I called Jayaraj and made him give me the award. I haven’t insulted Asif.

Today morning, I received a message from Jayaraj apologizing for the gaffe at the event. I am very sad that the cyber attacks are intensifying against me without caring to learn about the facts.
