Business tycoon Bobby Chemmanur in his nascent days in business had to encounter several hardships before tirelessly working to establish his empire. In an interview with an online channel, Bobby opened up about a crucial incident, which took place years ago.

Bobby Chemmanur said this incident was the catalyst for his decision to spearhead the crowdfunding campaign to save Abdul Rahim, who was facing a death sentence in Saudi prison.

“I did a business partnership in Kuwait. Shockingly, the business partner cheated me and it ended badly with a fight between us. He filed a false complaint against me and I had to visit the police station with a heavy heart. Losing the lion’s share of the business and later forcibly making you go through the police procedure for a false complaint nearly made me heartbroken. If I had killed someone and gone to jail, I wouldn’t have endured such pain.

When I heard about Abdul’s story, it was more gruesome than mine as he was incarcerated for the last 18 years. And he was about to face a death sentence albeit being innocent. This brought back the pain I had to go through during my initial days in business and then I decided to save Abdul at all costs.

Abdul Rahim, a native of Kadampuzha, has been in prison in Saudi Arabia for 18 years after being sentenced to death in the case of the murder of his sponsor's disabled son. Earlier, under the leadership of Bobby Chemmannur, a crowdfunding campaign amassed Rs 34 crore which made the court in Saudi rescind the death sentence. It is reported that Abdul Rahim will soon be released.
