'Signal received 40 meters from shore of Gangavali river'; more troops to Shirur

ANKOLA: It has been eight days since the missing of Kozhikode native truck driver Arjun, who went missing in the sudden landslide that shocked Shirur in Karnataka. According to the latest report from Tuesday, the officials received a signal, 40 meters from the shore in the Gangavali River.

The Navy will conduct an inspection centred on this place. More troops and equipment will arrive today for the search. the dune in the river will also be examined as part of the rescue operation.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court has sought a report from the central and state governments on the Shirur landslides. The current status of the rescue operation should be given as a report to the court on Wednesday. The High Court responded to a plea requesting intervention in the rescue operation. The central government apprised the court about the progress made in the rescue operation.

The army headquarters in Bengaluru and the district collector had confirmed having ’99 per cent certitude’ that Arjun was not trapped under the landslide debris. The army expressed doubts about Arjun and his truck being trapped inside the mud of the Gangavali river.

A simultaneous search on land and water, with the help of modern radar systems and ISRO satellite images, failed to find the body on the seventh day.

At noon on Monday, the radar received a signal at a depth of 15 meters but it failed to yield any results.
