PATHANAMTHITTA: A POCSO case accused, who had been evading arrest for three years, was singlehandedly nabbed by a policewoman in a civilian dress operation on Tuesday. It was Woman Civil Police Officer R Krishnakumari aka Krishna who singlehandedly subdued Thrippunithura native Sujith in cinematic style in the Pathanamthitta market yesterday.

Sujith was travelling in an autorickshaw through the market when Krishna, dressed in civilian clothes, came in front of this autorickshaw and stopped it by waving her hand. Soon after the autorickshaw came to a halt, she jumped into the back seat of the vehicle. Within no time, she tied the hands of Sujith using a cloth and asked the autorickshaw driver to take the vehicle to the nearest police station. Civil Police Officers Akash Chandran, Anuraj and Manikandan soon reached the spot and accompanied her to the station.

Only when the vehicle reached the police station did those, including the accused, realise that Krishna was a police officer. The police team, including Krishna, reached the Pathanamthitta market after receiving a tip-off that the accused was in the market. Sujith was accused of molesting a minor girl while he was living in a rented house in Pathanamthitta.

Earlier, the court had issued an arrest warrant against Sujith as he did not appear for the trial in the case after getting released on bail. Tuesday was the last day of the deadline to produce the accused in court. Sujith, who verbally abused the police officers at the station, was remanded by the court.
