Historic! Manu Bhaker wins India's first medal in Paris Olympics 2024
PARIS: Creating history in Paris, Indian shooting prodigy Manu Bhaker clinched the country’s first medal in the Olympics on Sunday. Manu Bhaker won bronze in the women's 10m air pistol shooting event. This is the first time an Indian woman has clinched an Olympic medal in the shooting event. Also, this is India’s first Olympic medal in shooting after Abhinav Apjit Bindra’s gold in the Beijing Olympics.
The 22-year-old Haryana native qualified for the final by finishing third in the qualifying round held at Chatearoux Shooting Center. South Korean pistol shooter Oh Ye-jin clinched gold (243.2) while Y J Kim from South Korea won silver (241.3). Manu Bhaker finished third with 221.7 points.
While responding to the media, Manu Bhaker said she was 'proud' of the achievement and thanked all Indians for their support.
Meanwhile, India's Ramita Jindal qualified for the finals in women's shooting 10m air rifle. Ramita reached the final by finishing fifth in the qualifying round with 631.5 points. Ramita also holds the record of becoming the youngest Indian shooter to reach the finals in women's shooting 10m air pistol.
