ABU DHABI: Under the revised terms of Salik, Dubai's toll system, violators will be fined up to 10,000 dirhams (Rs 2,27,954.28) per year. According to the new provisions, the amount levied on a vehicle during the period from January 1 to December 31 should not exceed Dh10,000.

A vehicle will be allowed to pass through the Salik toll gate only after the violation notice has been published in a person's traffic file within 13 months. Moreover, the Salik account balance or any part of the balance will not be refunded to the user or transferred to another Salic Account. This is part of Salik expanding its presence in Dubai.

Salik Gates started operating in Dubai Mall on July 1 under a five-year contract. Parking at the mall costs Dh20 per hour and Dh1000 for 24 hours.

Salik is responsible for designing, financing, developing, installing and operating the parking payment collection system in Dubai. So far 4.1 million vehicles have been registered in Salik. The company has now said that those who encounter problems with their tags must report them within 90 days. The company also informs that after checking the issue, the tag will be returned to the customer without charging any additional fee.

It is also suggested that if the number plate of the vehicle or the vehicle is stolen, the company should be informed immediately to deactivate the Salik tag. Otherwise, the toll and penalty will continue to be deducted from the customer's Salik account, the company said.

The toll operator informs that the Salik account will be deactivated if there are no tolls, payments or balance recharges for five years. When the account becomes inactive, the balance will be forfeited.
