CHENNAI: Tamil actor and director Ranjith courted controversy after he egregiously defended honour killings in the country.

"Caste-based honour killings are not violent, they show the concern of parents for their children.” The actor was speaking at an event in Salem, on the eve of the release of his new movie ‘Kavundampalayam’.

“Only parents know the pain of losing their children. If a bike is stolen, won't we go and investigate? Parents who devote their lives to their children will express anger similarly. It is not violence but the care and concern that parents have for their children” said Ranjith.

On expected lines, the weird opinion didn’t bode well with netizens, and many came forward with harsh opprobrium against the actor for his illogical justification of the crime.
