"To hell with your patriarchal standards; She deserved to live": Samantha Ruth Prabhu bursts out on Kolkata doctor rape-murder case
Actress Samantha has responded on Instagram regarding the murder of the female doctor at the RG Kar Medical College Hospital in Kolkata.
"Just want to put it out there that yet again, the media and the powers who will play their politics over this precious life of a young woman, will want to portray the accused as an aberration, as an outsider of an otherwise "civilised" society. Reports are already harping over how "unapologetic" this person was during investigation and how much pornographic material was recovered from his phone.
The perpetrator, as identified after the conclusion of this investigation, is not an aberration. He's very much a part of all of us. There are many like him among us, and they will continue to exist and enjoy power as long as we continue to treat this as a "problem" external to our social structure, and not deal with the inherent structure itself for how it views the bodies of women, how it views marginalized bodies.
This is not just a problem of safety for doctors. This is a problem of everyone who thinks women shouldn't step out on the streets alone at night, that women don't deserve to feel safe if they dress a certain way, that women should expect abuse if they resist. To hell with your patriarchal standards. She deserved to live. She deserved to shine with dignity," Samantha said on her Instagram story.
