THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Saji Cherian questioned the urgency of releasing the Hema committee report and requested everyone to wait for the court decision. The minister said the government had no qualms in releasing the report.

Minister Saji Cherian:

“The government is not responsible for releasing the report. I have not seen the report and will take all steps needed to ensure protection for the women artists mentioned in the report.

The relevant parts of that report have come to the government. The government thinks that the report should be released. Neither the high court nor the RTI have fixed a date for the release of the report. When it is deemed apt, the government will release the report. It is not our onus to release the report to the public.

We assigned a committee to study the hardships faced by women artists within the movie industry. The committee prepared a report and it is for the government to study. We have no responsibility to release it to the public. All we have to do is implement the observations and bring corrective actions.”
