CHANDIGARH: A doctor from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak, Haryana, has been arrested following a complaint by a dental student who alleged that she was kidnapped and assaulted. The incident reportedly occurred on August 16.

According to Virendra Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Rohtak, the first-year student filed the complaint late last night, accusing a doctor from the anatomy department of kidnapping her from PGIMS and assaulting her in Chandigarh.

The victim shared a video on X, where she tearfully displayed her injuries and recounted her ordeal. In the video, she claimed that she had been subjected to harassment for the past seven months and that the accused had threatened to reduce her attendance if she reported the abuse to authorities.

Despite the serious nature of the allegations, the police have stated that no evidence of sexual assault or rape has been found in the victim's statement or during the investigation so far.

In response to the incident, the doctor in question has been dismissed from the hospital. This case emerges amid nationwide protests over the recent rape and murder of a female doctor at a hospital in Kolkata.
