PRAYAGRAJ: Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy said the rising population is a major challenge for the country. He added that the Indians have not paid attention to population control since Emergency. He was speaking at the convocation ceremony of Motilal National Institute of Technology in Prayagraj.

‘India is facing a major crisis in terms of population, per capita land availability and health care facilities. Since Emergency, Indians have not paid attention to population control. This adds to the instability of our country. In comparison, countries like US, Brazil and China have very high per capita land availability,' said Narayana Murthy.

He added that the responsibility of a true professional is to contribute to the progress of the country. ‘This one generation will have to make some sacrifices to improve the lifestyle of the next generation. My parents, siblings and teachers have sacrificed a lot for my progress. It is a proof that their sacrifices were not in vain that I am sitting here as the chief guest today,' he clarified.

Meantime, 1,670 degrees were conferred at the convocation ceremony. Post graduate students received 34 gold medals and graduate students 13 gold medals.
