Teenager gang-raped inside bus; Five arrested

DEHRADUN: A teenage girl, UP native, was gang-raped inside a government bus at the Dehradun Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Uttarakhand. Five people have been arrested by the police. The news was released by a national media quoting news agency PTI.

Dharmendra Kumar (32), Rajpal (57), Devendra (52), Rajesh Kumar Sonkar (38) and Ravi Kumar (34) were arrested out of which Ravi Kumar is a native of UP and all others are from Uttarakhand. Dharmendra Kumar and Devendra are the driver and conductor of the bus where the molestation took place. Ravikumar and Rajpal are drivers of other buses. Rajesh Kumar Sonkar is the cashier of Uttarakhand Roadways.

Although the incident took place on August 12, the police released the information on August 17. The Child Welfare Committee informed the police on the 12th that a girl was sitting alone on the ISBT bench. The child was then shifted to the government's Bal Niketan. The child revealed the information about the molestation during the counseling conducted here.

On the complaint of the Child Welfare Committee, the Patel Nagar Police registered a case under sections including POCSO. The bus was identified during a centralized inspection including CCTV footage. SP Ajay Singh said that Devendra, one of the accused, has given a statement that he saw the child in Delhi. The child asked him the route to Punjab. He told the girl that she need to reach Dehradun and take a bus to Punjab.

When the bus reached Dehradun, after disembarking all other passengers, Devendra and Dharmendra brutally molested the child. Two other drivers who were in adjacent buses also knew this. They also got inside the bus and raped the girl. After they gave the information, the casher Rajesh Kumar who came here also molested the child.
