Average internet usage of Indians increased by hours; TRAI with reasons

NEW DELHI: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has said that there has been a huge jump in the number of subscribers and internet availability in India. This has been mentioned in the annual report for the financial year 2023-24. The report claims that the telecom sector has witnessed tremendous growth in the country. The average number of internet subscribers was 88.1 crore at the end of FY 2022-23, which has increased to 95.4 crore by March 2024.

The sector has achieved an increase of 7.3 crore subscribers. It has increased by 8.30 percent compared to the previous year. The reason for the rise in numbers is the availability of affordable smartphones and low cost of internet services. According to the TRAI annual report, there has been an increase of 9.15 percent in the number of broadband connections. What was 84.6 crore in 2023 has increased to 92.4 crore in the financial year ending March 2024.

The number of wireless data subscribers increased from 84.6 crore at the end of March 2023 to 91.3 crore at the end of March 2024. Total data usage increased by 21.69 percent. The number of telephone subscribers increased from 117.2 crore at the end of March 2023 to 119.9 crore at the end of March 2024. The monthly average usage per subscriber has also increased to 16 hours. According to the report, these findings show the excellence of the Indian telecom sector.
