'Prithviraj, Kunchacko Boban and Tovino....'; New revolution in AMMA?
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the sexual exploitation charges and Hema committee report rocking the Malayalam industry, all the office bearers of AMMA resigned on Tuesday, confirming chaos within the industry. The big decision came during the online meeting of the AMMA organization.
Allegations about former General Secretary Edavela Babu demanding actresses to share a bed for membership in AMMA shook the core out of the organization. Struggling amidst the raining allegations, Mohanlal, continuing in his third term as President, decided to call it a day. Mohanlal held discussion with Mammootty before deciding to quit.
In the meeting, Mohanlal talked emotionally while thanking members for their support. However, the superstar said it was one of the toughest challenges for the organisation to come clean from the current spate of allegations. The 17-member cabinet came into effect on June 30. It barely took two months for all members to resign in unprecedented style.
A new committee will be elected within two months. Actor Jagadish’s dissent with the leadership is rumoured to be the major cause of the split within AMMA. It is alleged that women members and youngsters decided to side up with Jagadish rather than stick with the leadership.
On Monday, actor Prithviraj openly critiqued the organisation which created ripple effects and uncertainty. The actor’s comments instantly hit a chord with the public on social media. It is rumoured that a few members were agitated over Prithviraj’s ‘hauteur’ comments that added salt to injury.
Women will be given more importance in the management committee. It is said that Prithviraj, Kunchacko Boban and Tovino are leading the race to be the new president.
In the wake of the resignation, WCC went into exhilaration mode and stated that it was time to rebuild the organisation for good.
“This is our duty. Let's create a new revolution...” said Women In Cinema Collective.
