MPox case confirmed in India; presence of virus detected in man who was under observation
NEW DELHI: Man who was under observation in Delhi with symptoms has tested positive for Mpox. However, the Union Health Ministry said that the virus that causes the disease is not a variant that is currently spreading in Africa and there is nothing to worry about. The youth's health condition is satisfactory.
The man was found to have a low-intensity MPox African Clad-2 variant, similar to around 30 cases reported in India since July 2022. According to the Union Health Ministry, mpox clad-1 is currently spreading in Africa. The youth is currently in isolation and his health condition is satisfactory. At present, there is no risk of the virus in the country. However, the Union Health Ministry has directed the state governments to remain vigilant.
A man, who had returned from abroad the other day, was under observation following suspicion of being infected with the virus. His test result was negative. Subsequently, the Health Ministry confirmed that there is no MPox infection in the country. The new case was confirmed in the meantime.
