PALAKKAD: KPCC president K Sudhakaran asked what was the problem having Rahul Mamkootathil as the UDF candidate in the Palakkad by-election. He said that it was Shafi Parambil who recommended Rahul as the candidate and that there was nothing unnatural about it.

"It was Shafi Parambil who suggested the name of Rahul Mamkootathil. There is nothing unnatural about it. The DCC had also recommended various names. However, KPCC has a system to make the final decision. Things were done in accordance with that system," Sudhakaran said.

"There is opportunity and democracy within Congress to suggest candidates. From the list of nominated individuals, the person most likely to win will be selected and fielded as the candidate. DCC had suggested names of leaders, including K Muraleedharan. It was Shafi Parambil who recommended Rahul Mamkootathil," he said.

"The candidate was announced several days ago and we have already started campaigning activities, Now, there is no point in creating a controversy over the DCC's letter. However, an investigation will be conducted into the leakage of the letter. It has to be found whether the letter leaked from the DCC," he added.
