Over 100 trees felled for filming; Yash's new film directed by Geethu Mohandas sparks controversy
BENGALURU: The upcoming film ‘Toxic - A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’, directed by Geethu Mohandas and starring Kannada actor Yash, is under scrutiny following allegations of illegal tree-cutting for its production. The film, produced by KVN Productions, is set to release in 2025 and marks Yash's 19th film.
The controversy erupted when reports emerged that over 100 trees were allegedly felled in the HMT compound in Peenya, Bengaluru. The land, classified as protected forest territory under the control of the Karnataka Forest Department, is a restricted area where such actions are prohibited. To substantiate these claims, the Forest Department released satellite images purportedly showing the tree loss in the area.
State Forest Minister Ishwar Khandre visited the site to assess the situation firsthand. He confirmed that the department has requested an immediate explanation from the film's producers regarding the alleged incident.
However, KVN Productions has firmly denied any wrongdoing. Supreet, a representative from the production company, stated that no trees were cut during the film’s shoot and assured that a detailed report will soon be submitted to the Forest Department to clarify the situation.
