Presence of Kuruva gang suspected in this district in Kerala; police urge people to exercise caution
ALAPPUZHA: It is indicated that the Kuruva gang, a notorious band of robbers based in Tamil Nadu, has arrived in the Alappuzha district. Police have advised people living in the district to exercise caution.
A failed burglary attempt at Renuka Ashok's residence near Mannancherry Nethaji junction has raised concerns about the gang's presence in the district. CCTV footage of two youths, suspected to be from the Kuruva gang, with their faces covered and partially naked, was found in the investigation conducted by the Mannancherry police.
The thieves entered Renuka's house at night by breaking open the back door. However, the family said that nothing was lost from the house. The family discovered the burglary attempt the next morning and filed a complaint with the police. During the subsequent investigation, the police obtained the CCTV footage from a nearby house. The police have intensified patrolling in the area and advised local resident associations to remain vigilant.
The Kuruva gang operates by posing as scrap collectors and vendors during the day, gathering information about potential targets. They meticulously survey homes and surroundings before striking at night. The gang consists of physically fit individuals who may attempt to overpower anyone resisting their burglary attempts. Police caution residents to exercise extreme vigilance.
After committing burglary, the Kuruva gang typically flees to areas like Tirunelveli or Madurai. They don't have a fixed hideout. They typically hide in abandoned farms, scrublands or under bridges.
