NEW DELHI: The opposition is gearing up to move a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, citing concerns over his allegedly partisan functioning in the House. The motion, spearheaded by Congress, is expected to receive backing from other parties within the 'INDIA' alliance, including Trinamool, Samajwadi Party, and Aam Aadmi Party. This collective move comes at a time when the alliance is reportedly grappling with internal rifts following the elections.

The Congress party was provoked after Dhankar gave the BJP an opportunity to allege links between an organization funded by US billionaire George Soros and the Congress. The BJP, without naming names, hinted at the organization's connections with Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The ruling party also alleged that Soros was anti-Indian.

The Chairman had also rejected notices submitted by opposition leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, and Pramod Tiwari, requesting discussions on issues like the Adani scandal and Manipur. Congress accused the Chairman of acting in a biased manner, allowing only ruling party members the opportunity to speak. The Chairman defended his actions, stating that he allowed the discussion because it was related to national security.

Ruckus over Adani-Soros issue

Yesterday, both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha witnessed intense disruptions over the Adani-Soros issue. The Lok Sabha was adjourned twice. In the Rajya Sabha, a war of words broke out between the ruling and opposition parties. The Chairman called a meeting with the leaders of the House and the opposition to resolve the issue, but to no avail. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned three times due to the ruckus.
