Celebrities including Mammootty and Sujatha pay their last respects to singer P Jayachandran; funeral to be held tomorrow
THRISSUR: Thousands including prominent people flocked to pay their last respects to singer P Jayachandran. Actor Mammootty, actor Pisharadi, singer Sujatha Mohan, Kalamandalam Gopi Asan and others paid their last respects at the house in Punkunnam Thrissur.
There was a public viewing at Sangeetha Nataka Akademi from 10 am to 12 pm. The remains was brought back from the hall to the house in Punkunnam at around 1 pm. Minister Bindu, director Kamal, Sreekumaran Thampi, Balachandra Menon, Ousepachan, Manoj K Jayan, Vidyadharan Master, Jayaraj Warrier, chenda artist Peruvanam Kuttan Marar and many other prominent people came to pay their last respects to the singer.
Jayachandran, who kept the Malayalis hooked to his music for six decades, passed away at 7.54 last night. He was undergoing treatment at Amala Hospital for more than a week due to a liver ailment.
Jayachandran had left the hospital recently but collapsed at home due to serious illness yesterday. He was then admitted to the hospital but his life could not be saved. His wife and children were with him at the time of his death. He was staying at Gulmohar Flat, Sitaram Mill Lane, Punkunnam. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 3:30 PM at Chendamangalam Paliyath Cemetery, Paravur.
