Alappuzha bypass: Girders of flyover under construction collapse

ALAPPUZHA: The girders of the flyover under construction at the beach side of the Alappuzha bypass have collapsed. Four girders fell to the ground. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. There are two flyovers in the area. Construction is ongoing in one flyover, while the other has been opened for traffic.

District Collector Alex Varghese visited the accident site. He has instructed the National Highway officials to submit a report within two days. The Collector assured that a detailed inspection would be conducted regarding the allegations of structural weakness in the flyover.

In the wake of the collapse, allegations of corruption surrounding the construction of the flyover have surfaced. Locals have raised concerns about the quality of materials used in the project, calling for immediate inspections to ensure safety standards. They have demanded a full investigation to verify the materials' quality before the construction continues.
