'Some people consider it the end of the world if their own children have dark skin, this mindset needs to be rewritten'
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Secretary Sarada Muraleedharan stated that people should be made aware of the fact that it is a loss not to recognize the beauty of black. She emphasized that discrimination based on skin color goes beyond what we usually perceive. She also pointed out that some people consider it the end of the world if their own children have dark skin. Sarada Muraleedharan was speaking at the National Tribal Literature Festival organized by KIRTADS. She was addressing a discussion on 'The Tribal Life of Social Justice.'
Recently, Sarada Muraleedharan shared a Facebook post about the humiliation she faced due to her skin color, which sparked widespread discussions. Following this, she reiterated her stance. "Many people reached out to me after my post, saying they had also faced discrimination based on skin color. This mindset needs to be rewritten. The incident I mentioned in my post caused me mental distress. Usually, when something hurts, we grieve, then survive, and eventually forget. But now, because people keep asking me about it, I am forced to remember," she said.
In her Facebook post, Sarada Muraleedharan openly spoke about a derogatory remark made regarding the skin color difference between her and her husband, former Chief Secretary Venu. She questioned why black is viewed so negatively and asserted that black is a beautiful color.
