Eight-month pregnant woman commits suicide

KOTTAYAM: A pregnant woman was found hanging at her husband’s house. She has been identified as Amitha Sunny (32), wife of Akhil Mathew of Manjoor Kandattupadam Mukattuparambil. She was eight months pregnant. The incident happened last night. Akhil was not at home at the time of the incident.

Amitha had called her mother before taking the drastic step. She told her mother that she is going to end her life and asked her to look after her children. Amitha’s mother immediately called Akhil and told him about it.

She was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the bedroom on the top floor. The door was locked from inside. Akhil got inside after breaking open the door. Though she was taken to the hospital, her life could not be saved. The police have registered a case of unnatural death.

The two got married four years ago. Amitha was a nurse abroad. She returned home a year ago. The couple has two children. The funeral will be held at St Mary's Church, Kadaplamattam, at 4 pm today.
