Sale of liquor and meat banned within 14 km radius of Ayodhya; underwear advertisements also banned
AYODHYA: The Ayodhya Municipal Corporation has banned the sale of meat and liquor on the Ram Path road, which connects Ayodhya and nearby Faizabad. Alcohol and meat have been banned in the temple city of Ayodhya for decades. This is now being extended to Faizabad. This road called Ram Path is 14 km long.
Gutka, bidi, paan and cigarettes are also banned on this road. Advertisements of women's or men's underwear are also not allowed. "Ayodhya is a city of devotion," said Mayor Girish Pati Tripathi. The main road in the city, Ram Path, bears the name of Lord Ram. The corporation has issued the order to maintain the true devotional spirit of the city."
There are meat and liquor shops on the streets of Faizabad. Some of these are on Ram Path. The corporation has asked in the notification that the sale of alcohol and meat will now be allowed only within half a kilometer of this road and that establishments currently selling such items should stop selling them.
