‘Create in India, create for the world', India will become world power in entertainment industry: Modi at Waves Summit

MUMBAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India will become a global power in the entertainment industry through the Orange Economy. This will be crucial in the journey to become a developed country. The Orange Economy is based on content, creativity and culture. India will become a world power in filmmaking, digital content, gaming, fashion and music. He was inaugurating the World Audiovisual and Entertainment Summit 'Waves' in Mumbai.

India, with a billion-plus population, is also a land of a billion-plus stories and over a billion storytellers. Today when the world is looking for new ways of storytelling, India has a treasure of its stories dating back thousands of years. India will soon become the world’s third largest economy. It is the world’s second largest mobile phone manufacturer. It is home to the world’s third largest startup ecosystem. The country’s six lakh villages each have their own folk traditions and unique storytelling style. The vision of the entertainment sector is ‘Create in India, Create for the World. Indian films have reached audiences in over 100 countries. The OTT industry has grown tenfold. Indian cuisine has become a global favorite. Music has also enjoyed similar recognition.

Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw, Dr. L. Murugan, actors Mohanlal, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Hema Malini, Rajinikanth, Rajamouli, Anil Kapoor, Nagarjuna, and Mukesh Ambani spoke.

'Animators will be made global champions'

Modi said that Indian animators and gamers will be made global champions. India will become a hub for their content. Investors should invest not only in entertainment platforms but also in individuals. Youth should share the untold stories with the world.

IICT to be established

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) will be established in Mumbai on the model of IIT and IIM. The Center has allocated Rs 400 crore for this. There will be courses in animation, visual effects, gaming, comics and extended reality. Regional campuses including those in Kerala will also be opened in the future.
