Nagpur's Nagastra flies over Lahore, presents doomsday
NEW DELHI: Before getting out of the shock induced by the May 6 attacks, Pakistan went through yet another scare after India launched a surprise attack on Lahore using indigenously developed Nagastra-1 and Israeli-made Harop drones. These were also used to destroy terrorist camps in Operation Sindoor.
In 2021, the Army had purchased 100 Skystriker drones from Israel. Last year, the Army received 480 Nagastra-1 units, indigenously manufactured by Solar Industries, Nagpur. This is a suicide drone that will crash into its target and explode.
Pakistan boasted that it shot down the Indian drones by showing the remains of the Nagastra.
These are known as Loitering Munition Systems (LMS), which are controlled and accurately destroy targets at a specified distance. They are used to destroy bunkers, tanks, air bases, missile sites, and other infrastructure.
- Nagastra is difficult to detect as it flies silently
- It will travel 100 km with 5-10 kg of explosives
- It will circle the sky until it finds its target
- It also uses AI technology
