THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Train services in the state are being disrupted after trees fall on railway tracks in heavy rain and strong winds. Many trains are running late. Train services were disrupted for more than six hours after trees and roofs of houses collapsed on the Kozhikode-Nallalam-Areekkad railway track. The accident delayed the travel of many trains to and from North Kerala.
Trees are falling in Thiruvananthapuram and Palakkad divisions for three consecutive days. Trees also fell in Kannur South. Trees falling several meters from the track and onto the railway line are causing concern. Coconut trees fell on the tracks between Edava and Kappil. A tree fell on the railway track near Ambattu Kavil Metro Station in Ernakulam, disrupting traffic for four hours. The incident happened last night at 8 pm. The railways have announced that the traffic disruption caused by a tree falling on the track in Ernakulam has been completely resolved.
