Hybrid cannabis worth Rs 10 crore seized at airport; Malappuram native male and female Malayali students studying in Karnataka arrested

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Air Customs has seized ten kilos of hybrid cannabis that was being smuggled from abroad at the Thiruvananthapuram airport. Male and female students from Malappuram, who were studying in Karnataka, have been taken into custody by the customs.

Authorities say that the cannabis they tried to smuggle hidden in their luggage is worth about ten crores. This is the first time that hybrid cannabis worth this much has been seized at the airport. They were passengers on Scoot Airlines flight TR 530 that arrived from Singapore at 11.10 pm on Saturday. They were caught while returning via Singapore after going to Bangkok.

Customs has not released further details of the accused as they need to be questioned in detail. The authorities became suspicious when they entered the terminal from the plane. The authorities called them back and checked their luggage when they tried to exit with the luggage they had taken from the conveyor belt.

The questioning continued late into the night. Senior Air Customs officials are collecting information, including the source of the cannabis and who it was brought to sell to.
