Another cyclonic circulation; heavy rainfall warning issued for Kerala, red alert declared for various districts
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rainfall has intensified across various districts in Kerala, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the downpour is likely to strengthen further in the coming days. A cyclonic circulation has formed over northern Karnataka, Telangana, and Rayalaseema. Coming to the south, strong westerly winds are prevailing over Kerala, leading to widespread rainfall across the state over the next five days.
The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall in Kerala from June 13 (Saturday) to June 17, with the possibility of isolated extremely heavy rainfall between June 14 and 16. Wind speeds may also intensify, potentially reaching up to 50–60 km/h. Several districts in the state have been placed under red alert due to the anticipated intense rainfall. The forecast also indicates extremely heavy rains from June 13 to 17 in Kerala, Konkan, Goa, and Maharashtra regions.
In Kerala, the IMD has issued red alerts for the following districts on specific dates due to the potential for extremely heavy rainfall:
June 14: Kannur and Kasaragod
June 15: Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod
June 16: Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad
June 17: Malappuram and Kozhikode
After a brief lull, parts of the state are once again experiencing isolated spells of intense rain.
