Caught after 30 years of hiding; terrorist Abubacker Siddique arrested

AMARAVATI: Notorious criminal Abubacker Siddique arrested. He is the mastermind of several bomb blasts in South India. He was arrested by the Tamil Nadu Police's anti-terror squad from his hideout in Annamayya district, Andhra Pradesh.

The police had been searching for Abubacker Siddique for the last 30 years. A reward of Rs 5 lakh had been announced for anyone who finds him. Another fugitive named Mohammed Ali alias Yunus alias Mansoor has also been arrested along with 60-year-old Siddique.

Authorities said that both of them are linked to several bomb blasts, murders and terrorism cases in Tamil Nadu and neighbouring states. Both were arrested during a search operation conducted based on secret information.

Abubacker Siddique has been accused in mutiple high profile cases. These include:-

  • 1995 Hindu Munnani office blast in Chintadripet, Chennai
  • 1995 parcel bomb explosion in Nagore that killed a person named Thangam
  • 1999 harmonised bomb plantings across seven locations in Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, and Kerala; this included the Chennai Police Commissioner’s Office in Egmore
  • 2011 pipe bomb planting attempt during former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani’s Rath Yatra in Madurai
  • 2012 murder of Dr Arvind Reddy in Vellore
  • 2013 bomb blast near the BJP office in Malleswaram, Bengaluru.
