Should change in KEAM formula be implemented this year? Some ministers oppose, raise in cabinet meeting

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There are hints that some ministers had opposed the change in the KEAM formula. Some asked in the cabinet meeting held on June 30 whether the new change should be executed this year. The decision was implemented in the name of public interest.

The government was criticized for the action taken in a hurry putting the students of KEAM in trouble. In the wake of it, the ministers raised doubts in the cabinet meeting. The new rank list was announced at 9.50 pm last night. John Shinoj of Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam in the Kerala syllabus, was ranked first in the first list. Now he has been ranked seventh.

In the new list, Joshua Jacob Thomas of Kowdiar in the CBSE syllabus, was ranked first. He was ranked fifth in the previous list. The first ranker in the first list, John Shinoj, secured 3553rd rank in the JEE Advanced exam and got admission for electrical engineering at Gujarat's IIT Gandhi Nagar.

The present crisis is due to the delay in implementing the reform brought to overcome the complaint of Kerala syllabus students that marks were being reduced due to mark consolidation.

Although the rank determination criteria need to be changed, the expert committee recommended that a detailed examination be carried out and that the alternative formula be ensured to be better. The report also stated that it will not be easy to implement it this time.
