Major setback for Kerala Governor; HC orders VC appointment from state govt panel
KOCHI: The High Court division bench dismissed the Governor's appeal against the single bench order that termed the appointment of interim vice-chancellors in two universities illegal. The division bench upheld the single bench order, suggesting that the appointment of interim VCs be made from a panel provided by the state government. The division bench also directed that the tenure of interim VCs should be a maximum of six months.
The court directed that the delay in the appointment of a permanent VC will adversely affect the university's proceedings and asked officials to expedite the appointment to avoid further squabbles. The single bench order was against the appointment of interim VCs in technical and digital universities.
Meanwhile, SFI expressed contentment with the court verdict.
