KOCHI: The Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council acknowledged the interventions made by religious scholar and All India Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar in Nimisha Priya’s case. The Action Council said that the efforts from Kanthapuram achieved more than what five years of diplomatic parley did.

The youngsters from victim Talal’s family reacted negatively to the discussions initiated by the Sufi scholar of Yemen, Sheikh Habib Umar bin Hafeel. The youths were also apprehensive of the elders in the family initiating peace talks with Indian officials. The reports circulating in the Yemeni media disparaging the intervention of the Sufi scholar also angered the youth.

The three days of discussions with the family are suddenly facing obstacles. The Indian media discussions and social media narratives in Nimsha Priya’s case, meanwhile, have caught the attention of Talal’s family after a few Yemeni students in India shared the news back in the country. The Action Council has requested that unnecessary interventions and debates be avoided.

Efforts should continue until the family forgives Nimisha. It is deemed that further arguments and social media mudslinging could make matters worse. Council Chairman P.M. Jabir, Convener Jayan Edappal, and Legal Committee Convener Adv. Subhash Chandran, among others, asked all to stand with Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar until Nimisha is freed from the death penalty.
